What is Floral Preservation?
Floral preservation is a process that extracts moisture from the flowers (creating dried flowers), maintains a dehydrated state and seals the flowers to protect their natural shape. Floral dried flower preservation is an art form that requires precision and a professional's touch and experience.
At Keepsake Floral, your flowers are carefully handled and cared for through over 10 distinct steps before being sent back to you as a completed floral keepsake.
- Bouquets are photographed from multiple angles immediately upon arrival in our Design Studio.
- Bouquets, wedding flower arrangements and other special event flowers are then disassembled before the flower preservation process can begin. This ensures that all of the moisture is removed from each flower before it is designed in a keepsake. (If a bouquet is not disassembled, interior flowers may not be properly dehydrated). All flowers and inclusions (invitations, ribbon, pearl pins, etc.) are inventoried and stored. Our preservationists make notes about the status of each bloom.
- Our preservationists carefully pre-treat and prepare the flowers for preservation, determining the best method and timeline for the types of flowers we received.
- The flowers enter the preservation process, which usually takes between 2-3 weeks, depending on the flowers. Here, each flower is preserved individually to enable flowers to maintain their shape as closely as possible.
- After the preservation process is complete, all flowers are color-enhanced by hand depending on the natural dehydrated color of the flower. This color enhancing seals and locks in the natural beauty of the bloom to last for years. The colors of the flowers deepen during preservation. White flowers become creamy or more ivory during the process and colored flowers deepen or intensify in color.
- Our clients' flowers are stored in carefully climate- controlled storage, awaiting final confirmation of the design.
- Once you have spoken with a Design Consultant and the design is chosen, flowers are arranged by one of our master designers, depending on the custom-specifications you have given us along the way. Any adornments (such as pearl pins, ribbon, and crystals) are re-applied to your flowers.
- Completed designs are sealed in an additional climate controlled environment where they receive the first of many quality-control checks.
- Keepsakes then enter our framing department, where frames are custom cut and assembled to perfectly fit and highlight our keepsakes.
- Our expert framers complete their process and place the keepsake through another quality control check.
- Framed keepsakes enter our shipping department where a photo of the completed keepsake is taken and our lead shipper and designers give the piece a final check before packaging and shipping the keepsake.
Keepsake Floral's carefully monitored preservation process keeps your flowers looking much like they did in your bouquet, but our process produces flowers that are not as brittle as other traditional preservation processes. This is important as our designers work with each individual bloom to create your keepsake. Keepsakes are displayed inside a virtually airtight keepsake environment when finished, an important feature which keeps the flowers within the display away from everyday environmental conditions that may harm flowers over time.
